The Aerial-Free TV Promise Has a Catch

Hisense 40A4QTUK and Philips 40PFS6000/05 are both 40-inch Full HD smart TVs. The real decision is Freely versus Titan OS, connection space and when the new TV will arrive.

30-second verdict

Choose Hisense 40A4QTUK if Freely's live-TV guide and AirPlay 2 are important and you can accept the checked Amazon dispatch delay. Choose Philips 40PFS6000/05 if you want Titan OS, three HDMI inputs and the faster checked Amazon delivery. Freely streams over broadband and recommends at least 10 Mbps; check your connection and channel needs before treating 'no aerial' as a complete replacement.

A practical choice if you want Freely's internet-delivered live channels, VIDAA and AirPlay 2. Check your broadband, channel list and delivery date first: the Amazon new offer was usually dispatched within 6–10 days at our check.

Choose it if you need three HDMI inputs, two USB ports or prefer Titan OS. Amazon's product information incorrectly displayed 720p; the exact /05 model's Philips specification sheet confirms a 1920 × 1080p panel.

What we researched

We searched Amazon UK for '40 inch tv' and used its Best Sellers sort to find candidates, then excluded results at other screen sizes. The selected exact 40-inch listings showed 500+ bought in the past month for Hisense and 400+ for Philips. These are current Amazon listing signals, not UK market share or an overall sales ranking. Their detail pages showed 1,200 and 102 global ratings; review counts may cover variants and are not combined. Both checked offers were new, sold and dispatched by Amazon. Philips was in stock with faster London delivery; Hisense was available to order but usually dispatched in 6–10 days. Prime eligibility was not confirmed on the selected offer screens, so do not assume a Prime delivery date.

Key findings

Freely depends on the connection in your room

Freely can stream live TV without an aerial, but recommends broadband of at least 10 Mbps. An aerial can supplement available channels; check the channel list before replacing an existing setup.

High

An ARC soundbar changes the port count

Both sets use HDMI1 for ARC. That leaves one other HDMI input on Hisense and two on Philips for a console or streaming device.

High

The Philips 720p label is inconsistent

Amazon's summary field says 720p for B0F24WNMYM, but the listing identifies model 40PFS6000/05 and Philips's exact-model sheet states 1920 × 1080p. Check the model label if ordering this listing.
