The Speaker That Travels Well May Not Fill Your Living Room

Anker soundcore 2 lasts longer away from a socket; JBL Go 5 slips into a smaller pocket and handles dust as well as water. The checked UK offers make that choice concrete.

We compare products every day and update our recommendations when a better option is verified.

30-second verdict

Choose the Anker soundcore 2 if long listening sessions and straightforward stereo playback matter more than pocket size. Choose JBL Go 5 if you want a palm-sized speaker with a documented dust rating, app EQ and easy pairing with a second Go 5. Independent tests found roughly 15 hours for soundcore 2 and nine for Go 5, but neither is suited to filling a large gathering with deep bass. Both selected UK offers were new, in stock, dispatched by Amazon and had a Prime option; soundcore's ordinary buy box was also checked for shoppers without Prime.

What we researched

We screened Amazon UK's popularity-sorted portable-speaker results, then checked these two different makers' exact variants and local buy boxes. The navy blue soundcore 2 showed 500+ bought in the past month and the black JBL Go 5 showed 1K+; these labels describe the listings at check time, not UK market ranking. Global rating totals may pool colours. Both were new, in stock and dispatched by Amazon to the selected London postcode. The soundcore Prime price required membership, so its ordinary price and active ordinary purchase buttons were also checked. JBL's seller was a third-party electronics store fulfilled by Amazon.

Key findings

The runtime gap is real, but smaller than the box claims

The makers quote different maximum conditions. RTINGS measured about 15 hours for soundcore 2 and nine for Go 5 in its own tests. Expect volume and settings to change either result.

High

Choose the protection you need

Both speakers have a water-resistance rating. Only Go 5 has a documented dust rating in the cited model specification, which matters for sandy or dusty use.

High

Small speakers still have small-speaker limits

Independent reviews found neither model especially loud or capable of deep bass. Buy for personal listening and easy carrying, not for filling a large living room or party.
