Camera, Console, or Phone? Start With the Slot, Not the Sticker

Both 256GB cards fit Nintendo Switch 2's microSD Express requirement, but a higher advertised write ceiling is not a console loading benchmark. The buying difference is the exact offer's availability, delivery and documented performance limits.

We compare products every day and update our recommendations when a better option is verified.

30-second verdict

For a Switch 2 owner who wants storage sooner, choose the SanDisk microSD Express offer: the checked Canadian listing was in stock, sold and shipped by Amazon.ca, and offered delivery to Balzac T4B 2T3 on 27 September. Choose PNY if its lower checked price and higher claimed peak write speed matter more than the 5 October delivery estimate and the displayed ten-unit stock warning. Both have 256GB capacity, Amazon.ca as the selected new-offer seller and shipper, and matching 256GB reviews mentioning Switch 2 use. Neither advertised peak speed proves faster game loading in a Switch 2. Recheck the final offer and your device's card requirements before ordering.

microSD Express 256GB U3 V30 A1

P-SDU256P31880EXP-GE · ASIN B0F8PDR71R
CAD67.78 new offer checked 24 Sep 2026

This 256GB microSD Express card meets the Switch 2 format requirement. PNY rates it up to 890MB/s read and 750MB/s write in a capable host, but these are peak claims and the listing does not establish game-loading advantage over SanDisk. In an ordinary UHS-I/II device it falls back to that host's speed. Review feedback for the selected 256GB option mentions that it works with Switch 2. The checked offer was sold and shipped by Amazon.ca, with a ten-unit stock warning and a 5 October delivery estimate to Balzac T4B 2T3. PNY lists a limited lifetime warranty and an available trial recovery-software offer, subject to terms.

microSD Express 256GB

SDSQXFN-256G-GN4NN · ASIN B0DFQGVLYF
CAD109.45 new offer checked 24 Sep 2026

This 256GB microSD Express card meets the Switch 2 format requirement. SanDisk's current data sheet gives up to 880MB/s read, 650MB/s write and 210MB/s minimum sustained write with suitable hardware. Those numbers are not direct Switch 2 loading measurements. In a UHS-I/II host it operates at UHS-I speeds. Review feedback for the selected 256GB option mentions Switch 2 use and quick loading in that setup. The checked Amazon.ca offer was in stock with 27 September free delivery estimated to Balzac T4B 2T3. SanDisk lists a limited warranty of 30 years in Canada; its ThermAdapt thermal design is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured advantage here.

What we researched

We screened Canadian 256GB microSD results and compared two exact new microSD Express offers from different manufacturers for Switch 2 storage. The PNY listing showed 200+ bought in the past month and 333 ratings; the SanDisk listing showed 50+ and 2,196. Those changing offer signals are not market share, and ratings can cover multiple capacities. Both selected offers were sold and shipped by Amazon.ca. The useful choice is whether you value the currently earlier, in-stock SanDisk delivery or PNY's lower checked price and higher manufacturer-rated peak write ceiling, with the limits of those speed claims kept clear.

Key findings

Check the EX mark before any speed claim

Nintendo's guidance requires microSD Express for Switch 2 downloadable games and related data. Both selected 256GB products use that format. A conventional card can look similar and still be the wrong purchase for game storage.

High

A peak number cannot rank console load times

PNY's stated 750MB/s write ceiling exceeds SanDisk's 650MB/s, while read ceilings are close. Both require a suitable host and neither checked source gives controlled Switch 2 head-to-head loading data. SanDisk separately states a 210MB/s minimum sustained write figure for 256GB; PNY's checked sources do not give a matching sustained figure.

High

Delivery can outweigh a specification on paper

For the checked Balzac location, SanDisk was in stock with 27 September free delivery; PNY showed only ten units and 5 October delivery. Amazon prices, stock and promises can change by address and time, so recheck the exact ASIN at checkout.

Manufacturer product page
PNY · selected 256GB microSD Express specificationsThe selected SKU P-SDU256P31880EXP-GE lists up to 890MB/s read and 750MB/s write, U3/V30/A1, Switch 2 compatibility, backwards use in UHS-I/II slots, limited lifetime warranty, and an available trial photo-recovery software offer. Peak speeds require a suitable host. Some generic family panels show 850MB/s write for another capacity; the selected 256GB SKU states 750MB/s.
Manufacturer data sheet
SanDisk · microSD Express data sheetThe 256GB line specifies up to 880MB/s read, 650MB/s write and 210MB/s minimum sustained write with compatible equipment; in UHS-I/II devices the card performs at UHS-I speeds. It describes ThermAdapt and a lifetime limited warranty that is 30 years in Canada. These are manufacturer claims, not measured results for the checked Amazon offer.
Console maker support
Nintendo · microSD Express Card FAQSwitch 2 uses microSD Express for downloaded software, updates, DLC, screenshots and video; game save data stays in system memory. Up to 2TB cards meeting the standard are supported. This establishes the needed card format, not a speed advantage for either brand.
Method
On 24 September 2026 we screened Amazon Canada 256GB microSD results and opened both exact product pages for Balzac T4B 2T3. We verified selected capacity, ASIN, new offer, Amazon.ca seller and shipper, stock, delivery and purchase controls. We read one five-star verified Canadian review marked 256GB for each card. PNY's selected-SKU page, SanDisk's 256GB data-sheet row and Nintendo's microSD Express guidance informed the compatibility and speed analysis. Amazon listing purchase labels are current transaction signals rather than market share, and rating totals may combine capacities. We did not benchmark game loads or long-term reliability.
